Fish "on the 16th day of June 1837 at Volney..." to settle damages of $47.56 in favor of John Gasper. Signed by Aaron G. Fish, Justice of the Peace. Above and below the text is a line of printer's devices, along with the imprint of Richard Oliphant, Oswego. Docketed on the verso. Good. Item #041190

[Richard Oliphant (1801-1862), born in London, emigrated to Auburn, New York at age 12 and apprenticed in the printing trade. He is said to have set the first type in Syracuse, finally settling in Oswego where he earned respect as a printer and an opinionated publisher. His son, Richard J. Oliphant, later joined the firm.].
