Charlie Daniels , born at Wilmington, North Carolina in 1936, began writing and performing in the 1950s. As a Nashville session musician, he played on albums recorded by Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and others. He is perhaps best known for his country hit, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Daniels was welcomed into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008.
