1946. Original manuscript. (88)pp full of entries, most in pencil, some ink. Inside the cover is written, "Speedway Garage - Carl Premo, lessor - 1953." Preceding the record of accounts is one page, "Some facts about the weather," dated 1946. The ledger begins on page two, January 1946, including "Donald started back for Camp Swift, Texas....Alice arrived from California....D went to Boston for audition in piano....I sold cottage to a Mr. Andrews, $4.500...." Most entries relate to short car trips to buy various foods and household items at post-war prices, while others detail the expenses of maintaining and operating a car in the post-WWII years. (Dates when various vegetables were planted also are recorded.) Total car mileage for 1946 was 3,885. Places visited include: Duxbury, West Lebanon, Sandy Hook, Boston, Clinton, &c. Snowfalls are noted ("76 inches to date" in February) as are icy conditions, warm spells, etc. Six pages toward the end record stock dividends, 1948-1950, including: AT&T, General Electric, Woolworth's, United Fruit, General Motors, Sears, and some other blue-chip stocks of the day. ~~ Bound in embossed black leatherette over flexible boards. 6.5" x 4" Very Good.
