Printed below the image is "Gurney & Son, Fifth Ave, N.Y." On the verso are the Gurney crest and name, Fifth Avenue, Cor. 16th St. N.Y. Written in pencil is Parepa-Rosa [not an authentic signature]. Parepa-Rosa (1836-1874), a British-born soprano, established with her husband their own opera company, toured the US for several years with Euphrosyne singing the lead roles, &c. She died at age 38.
