Abernethy, the Governor of Oregon Territory, and others write here from Oregon City, describing fatal encounters with the local Indians, including the recent massacre of 11 missionaries among whom were Dr. and Mrs. Whitman. All men, women and children at the mission are named. along with a list of goods (blankets, guns, ammunition, tobacco, etc.) that were surrendered in order to recover the captives who had not been killed.
