PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM ASSEMBLED BY A NEW JERSEY FAMILY, 1908-1912

1908. Original photograph album. Contains approximately 180 images of various sizes (most are 3" x 5"), mounted to the gray leaves of a photo album. The spine is intact, the covers are lacking. Most pages are dated in ink from 1908 through 1912. The photographs begin with beach and boardwalk scenes of Atlantic City in its boom period. Wicker stroller chairs are seen as well folks wading in the surf, and signs for Young's Pier Theater, Electric Shoe Shine, and Robt E Delany at the Dunlop Hotel. Next come some mountain scenes, and a place known as Pulpit Rocks. A 1911 bi-wing airplane comes next, followed by livery stables, well-dressed white kids, then black kids in sack cloth, a couple of buffalo, an airship, a Shriners' parade, etc. Laid in is a large photo, containing drawings of four viaducts: DL&W RR Concrete Viaducts; Pauling Kill Viaduct, Hainesburg, NJ; Delaware River Viaduct, Slaterford, PA; and Martins Creed Viaduct, Kingsley, PA. Shown next are: a close-up view of a canal lock; an aerial view of a rural settlement; about 16 views of Princeton University buildings (Alexander Hall, Quad, an eating club, &c.); more beach scenes, including a long pier; early limos with canvas tops on dirt roads; a train wreck with the locomotive on its side; Lafayette & Harvard pennants in a dorm room with sink; kids and adults with pets; river panoramas [joined images]; a white dog retrieving sticks from a river, climbing out on a fallen tree, and playing with his owners; a bearded farmer driving mules and a wagon; etc. Very Good.
