"John Barnes Wells, a tenor vocalist, was featured on many 78-rpm recordings released in the early decades of the 20th century. He also performed in musical theater productions of this era such as a 1903 version of The Wizard of Oz and an Uncle Tom's Cabin constructed on the Broadway stage less than two years prior to Wells' death [in 1935]" (online source).
