For Sale by the Author, 11 Summer Street, Boston, and by Booksellers Generally." 8.5" x 5.5", folded into original envelope addressed to Hon. Philander Tolman, Harrison, Maine. Ugly brown stain on left side throughout, not affecting legibility. Good. Item #041352

Salem Wilder (1823-1910) was born at Sterling, Massachusetts, and died at Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Philander Tolman (1818-1896) began his career at Worcester, Massachusetts, and moved to Harrison, Maine in 1848 as a manufacturer of iron and steel wire. In 1870, he built the mansion Greenwood Villa. An ardent Republican and temperance advocate, he was elected state senator in 1878, &c., &c. (See Thomas Tolman Family Organization.) This prospectus quotes a number of published reviews of Salem Wilder's book.
